Over the past couple of years, text messaging has taken off as a primary communication channel for businesses and organizations. And with a 98% view rate, it’s no wonder! But this also means that people are increasingly reporting unwanted messages. There has been a 30% increase in FTC complaints from 2019 to 2020. This leads to decreased engagement from the recipients, heavy filtering by mobile carriers, and poor deliverability for all senders.
To combat this, mobile carriers (T-Mobile, AT&T) are now requiring that legitimate senders verify their identity and their messaging use cases. This will help carriers quickly identify trusted senders. Trusted senders are seeing up to a 90% decrease in message filtering, as a result. All organizations using our platform will need to become verified senders.
So how can you become a trusted sender?

To verify your organization, you'll need to provide your EIN/Tax-ID number and a point of contact for your office in case there are follow up questions.
To verify what you're sending, you'll need to identify your primary SMS message use case and provide two examples of messages you might send that fall within that use case. The vast majority of our clients' messaging falls under the category of Public Service Announcement, but if you suspect your use case may be different, be sure to identify that to your account representative.
Here are some of the more common use cases:
- Public Service Announcement - PSAs to raise audience awareness about a given topic
- Marketing - Promotional content such as sales and limited time offers
- Polling and voting - For conducting polling and voting, such as customer surveys. (Not for political/campaign use.)
- Customer Care - Support, account management, and other avenues of customer interaction
- Political - Part of an organized effort to influence decision making of a specific group (Not for elected government officials. Specific to campaigns.)
